Dark and Dangerous.....

Ok, it's almost 3:30am, and I know I should be asleep, but when the creative juices are flowing, there's no stopping them. I know I wouldn't be able to sleep with the shadow of a short story invading my dreams.
Now here's the scenario: it's a paranormal erotic romance that takes place in the 1700's----tentatively. And it's also going to be tentatively titled "Dark and Dangerous".
When I have the details ironed out, it will be posted here, along with the other short story synopses I am working on.

What I am up to.....

I am off of work today----I don't go back until Tuesday. I figure now would be a great time to get some writing done. I am going to enter my short story, 'Scandalous', in a micro fiction contest, and hopefully win.
Well, only time will tell.....

Synopsis- Scandalous

What if you could have one more night with someone from your past---would you seize the opportunity, or would you just let it pass you by....?

Hailey Michaels has it all: beauty, fast-paced career in the publishing industry, a loving child and she is engaged to the man of her dreams.
Hailey's life is perfect....or so she thought.
It all starts with a question: if you could have one more chance with someone from your past, would you take it?
This gets Hailey thinking about Aden St Clare, the handsome, charismatic lead singer of the band, Cooper. He and Hailey dated back when she was twenty, and Cooper was just getting started.
Hailey's heart raced, just thinking about Aden....his dark blue eyes, dark hair and the way his arms felt when he pulled her close, holding her tightly.
Then out of the blue, Hailey and Aden began to drift apart. She figured it was because their lives took them in different directions: Cooper was in their heyday, becoming well-known and popular throughout the world; and Hailey had just landed her dream job of becoming a writer at a magazine in New York City.
Though she and Aden hadn't talked in a while, her job gave her the opportunity to keep up with what was going on with Cooper. She had heard about Aden's marriages and the birth of his children. While she felt bad for him, Hailey knew she also had a piece of Aden as well: her son, Lucas. Everytime she looked into his sweet little face, she could see Aden.
But Hailey couldn't bring herself to tell Aden that Lucas was his because she didn't want to turn lives upside down. But now there would be no getting out of it. She and Aden are once again thrown together as Hailey has to interview him and the band for Cooper's thirtieth anniversary.
Can Hailey figure out where her heart lies, before everyone involved gets hurt?

Writing challenge

The goal of the 1000 Words A Day Challenge is simple: to inspire writers to write. (If you’d rather aim for fewer words, please visit the 500 Words A Day Challenge or 250 Words A Day Challenge.)

Too often, I find that writers start motivational challenges like NaNoWrimo with enthusiasm and good intentions, but give up when they start missing their daily targets for more than a few days in a row…undermining their confidence and defeating the purpose of the original challenge.

I also wanted a challenge that lasted the whole year rather than just a month.

Hence, the 1000 Words A Day Challenge.

What are the rules?

Try to write 1000 words a day, at least six days a week.

As long as you are sincerely and consistently TRYING to write 1000 words a day, then you can post the badge on your blog or website. If life occasionally gets in the way, that’s ok — as long as you promise yourself to get back on the wagon as soon as you can. If you sometimes don’t reach 1000 words, that’s also ok — but try again the next day.

The badge has to link back to the 1000 Words A Day Challenge page (the page you’re reading right now).

Please feel free to put these badges on your blog or website.

The Story Of My Life

What is it that makes us afraid to follow through with the things that we start? With the best of intentions, we undertake arduous tasks---whether it's New Year's resolutions, starting---or, in my case, finishing a book, or even renovating a room, we come up with all kinds of reasons and excuses not to move forward and take on the intended task.

WHY?

Why are we so afraid? Is it because it's human nature to stay with something we know, to stay within our comfort zone, and not stray too far outside? Or can it be because of the impending success that would most likely come with the completion of the tasks we have set forth?

Or maybe it's because of the criticism that is most definitely sure to follow---whether it be negative or constructive---putting pressure on ourselves to keep getting better and better with each task we undertake.

The reason I have asked this question, is because I have been wrestling with just those feelings: hesitation towards continuing on with the book I have started oh-so-long ago. Why can't I bring myself to sit down, and work on it?

Before, I could use the excuse of not having the time; life and motherhood ate up 99% of my time, leaving little room for anything else. But now my son is grown, and my daughter is in school and entertains herself; so they are no longer an option.

Or maybe it has to do with the mixed-up, somewhat twisted, thinking of "When I am finished with this, what am I going to do next?" or even worse is, "What if nobody likes what I have written?"

As you can see, I don't take negative criticism very well. I see it as a jab to me personally, and not meant to help me improve myself. Come to think of it, maybe learning to accept constructive criticism should have been one of my new year's resolutions.
